Welcome to www.CatonsvilleFelineRescue.com.
Catonsville Feline rescue Society is dedicated to the rescue, care &
adoption of stray, feral & abandoned cats.
We share a deep love & concern for cats. We believe that
every cat is a precious, individual who deserves to live
their life cherished & protected. We also believe they have
the right to be recognized as a unique & important species.
The right to be free from cruelty & abuse. The right to
receive aid & comfort, including food, water, shelter &
medical care. The right to a fair share of public resources
for the care & treatment of companion animals. The right
to be treated as equal members of the animal kingdom. The
right to be represented accurately & humanely by those who
speak on their behalf.
We offer shelter, professional vet care, spay/neuter, adoption & behavior
consultations. We believe in educating people about cats & the way they see
the world guides everything we do, from trap/neuter/return to our adoption
& "give up" policies.
We will work with anyone who believes they can no longer keep their cat. If
it is due to a behavioral problem we will help you work out a solution to
the problem based on understanding & respect. Solutions require patience, as
cats are complex creatures & there are no quick fixes for behavior their
human companions consider inappropriate.
We will assist you with stray or feral cats in your area. We strongly
believe in & are committed to TNR (trap, neuter & return) It is the only
humane, non-lethal feral cat management standard practice. A feral cat is
only unsocialized. It deserves to live & be cared for like it's
domesticated brothers and sisters.
We have to keep the cats out of our shelter system. Once in the system, a cat has little hope of survival. Less than 20 percent of cats in shelters ever come out alive. Most are "put to sleep" - killed - because there are just too many cats & not enough homes. Spay/neuter programs can help with this.
We are a "hands on" rescue program. We have saved the lives of over 1,500
abandoned & unwanted cats. I myself & two other volunteers make up the
CFRS. We cannot turn a "blind eye to any animal abandoned & suffering". We are
a "no frills" group. We do not even have an office. I work out of my house.
We have paid thousands of dollars out of our own savings to help give these
innocent precious cats & kittens medical help & the care they need. Many
come to us with broken limbs, painful wounds and other injuries. We work with
the SPCA of Falls Road, who gives us discounted prices. Each cat that comes
into our program is tested for FELV/FIV, dewormed, vaccinated for RCPC
(distemper combo), treated for fleas, ear mites & anything else that might be
necessary prior to adoption. The cats are Spay/neuter to stop the cycle of
overpopulation & to improve the overall health of each cat/kitten.
We have obtained our 501 non-profit status which will allow us to start
applying for grants. With the grants, we hope to purchase land in order to
build our own sanctuary. The grants will also allow us to help more
abandoned & feral cats, to help pay for much needed dental & medical
procedures. The grant process takes six months to a year to complete and be
approved. Until then what CFRS needs from you is your financial support to
help carry us on with this life-saving work for animals.
We need you to help us!!
Unfortunately many cats that come to us are badly neglected & often need
immediate medical care. Your gift, no matter how small it may seem to you,
can make the difference between life and dearth for a cat or a kitten.
It can really, trully save a precious life.
Won't you please help? Your contributions are tax-deductible. You can click
on our link to see the cats and kittens we have already saved & who are in
need of loving and kind homes. You can also go to our "Wish List"-items that
we need to help us with the care of the cats, i.e. blankets, bedding, cages,
medical supplies, etc…
Remember that together we can change their lives. In the fields, in the
courtrooms & in the halls of Congress, hand in hand with millions of
supporters- we must press forward to a more Humane Society. Until there are
no more "unwanted" animals, it is up to every one of us to work together to
advocate spay & neuter programs & to implement sheltering models that have &
will save thousands of animals. A No Kill Nation is with in our reach; & if
we can work together- with certainty of purpose, assured of our own success,
with the philosophy of "what must be done, shall be done"- the attainment of our goal will
not be far off. Thank you for your kindness & support,
Susan Jones.
